When a fire erupted July 4th weekend causing major fire and water damage to the school's structure, Durham County Schools relied on Disaster One's knowledge and expertise to return the structure to its pre-loss condition before the start of school in August. Disaster One quickly began working on the structure, and within 30 days completed the job, allowing school to start as scheduled. |

When the Facilities Manager for a North Carolina County Jail needed to improve the performance of their Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning system as well as improve the Indoor Air Quality, they turned to the team at Disaster one to come in and perform a restorative cleaning of the HVAC systems & ductwork. Our team utilized HEPA filtered air cleaning equipment along with a variety of air powered brushes & nozzles to dislodge and remove years of built of debris.
This debris, which could have contained anything from cigarette smoke (ETS - Environmental Tobacco Smoke), to dust, mold & anything else that would cling to the interior of the ductwork was reducing the airflow through the system allowing for poor performance & potentially poor IAQ (Indoor Air Quality). Our highly trained team was able to perform this work with minimal interruption to the daily activities of the jail and its occupants. |

Major Hotel |
Hurricane Ophelia |

When the Hurricane Season of 2005 started, everyone near the Gulf of Mexico & Atlantic Ocean feared the worst due to the previous 2004 season. No one knew that Hurricane Katrina would be as big and bad as it was. Our Disaster One team responded and assisted numerous clients in Mississippi, which is also the time that a forgotten and almost unknown storm named Hurricane Ophelia hit the Carolina Coast. It was during this storm that a major hotel was hit once again. With almost every major Disaster Restoration contractor now working in Hurricane Katrina’s path, the hotel was in need of a resourceful contractor that could handle the situation efficiently. They turned to Disaster One and once again our teams headed out to assist another client in need.
With a portion of the roof blown off, every rain shower dumped more water into the building, then working its way down from the third floor saturating walls, ceilings & anything else in its path. With approximately 75% of the approximately 119 rooms affected, our crews had a large task to accomplish in short order. Removal of water damaged materials such as carpet, pad, drywall & insulation took place immediately followed by the installation of high capacity dehumidifiers & fans. Our crews utilized HEPA filtered air cleaning equipment and plastic barriers during demolition to prevent the spread of dust & debris throughout the hotel to complete the project on time and in a very neat, detailed, & clean order. |
Market America |

When a rainstorm passed through Greensboro on Sunday February 25, 2007, our emergency crews had already assisted on two other large water & fire losses. With large losses back to back on Friday & Saturday, it was not likely to happen again on Sunday, but when the staff at Market America had water pouring in from the roof, they knew that a quick response was critical. The Disaster One team was called into action and we began working the third consecutive large loss in less than 36 hours.
Water had entered the building causing extensive water damage to the building, starting in the Presidents Office. Our crews began with covering, moving & protecting valuable contents, then removing wet ceiling tiles, drywall & insulation followed by thorough extraction of water and installation of high capacity dehumidifiers, fans & temporary generators to completely dry the structure. Work progressed over the next two weeks all the while working with minimal interruption to the Market America staff. |
Food Lion Grocery |
Greensboro, NC |
 |
On January 17, 2008, a representative of Disaster One stopped by a local Food Lion grocery store after noticing a fire truck parked in front of the building. Upon entering the building, a steady stream of water was flowing into the building above the checkout area due to a roof drainage system failure. The store manager was located and asked if they needed assistance with the problem and she asked, "How quickly can your team be here?". Disaster One responded to the emergency with a team of water extraction experts and equipment within 15 minutes. After the first phase of extraction and drying was completed, the store called Disaster One back later that evening due to another failure with the drainage system. Disaster One was glad to provide the emergency service and proud that the Food Lion was open for business the next days business.
Multi-family Housing
Roswell,GA

In June 2009, Disaster One responded to a water loss at a multi-family building near downtown Atlanta. From the time this call was received, Disaster One was onsite in forty-five minutes. An 8-inch water pipe burst filling the entire first floor hallway, 8 separate apartment homes, two elevator shafts and multiple stairwells. Working through the night, Disaster One extracted water, removed carpet and pad, and began necessary demolition to dry the structure. Our content restoration team was called to assist multiple residents needing garment and furniture restoration. The Disaster One team worked quickly and efficiently, allowing residents to return to their homes 4 days prior to target completion. See more details on our Atlanta water extraction services.

Vandalism |
Greensboro, NC |

When vandals decided to re-paint the hardwood floors, start a small fire, test the strength of the glass in the windows and see if they could stop up all of the drains with the water running, they managed to cause some serious damage to a large 3-story home under construction. When the builder came in the next morning, he immediately knew he had to get the Disaster One team to come in and handle this unexpected disaster.
Our team responded quickly with the necessary manpower and equipment to remove and dispose of the damaged flooring materials, drywall, and insulation as well as setup the necessary temporary power & structural drying equipment to prevent further damage. Our crews worked to get this home back in a condition where the builder could begin to complete the construction of this home.
Fire Damage
Charlotte, NC

When lightning struck this custom built home causing major structural damage in November 2008, Disaster One was called in to preserve and protect the property and all of the family's belongings. Disaster One was on the scene immediately after the first responder's; tarping the roof, beginning to assess the buildings contents and performing water mitigation to prevent additional damage.
Disaster One worked very closely with the property owners and the insurance carrier to agree on the scope of work allowing reconstruction to begin as soon as possible. Disaster One also worked very closely with the property owners to make any requested changes throughout the reconstruction process and were able to restore the home to a better than pre-loss condition. This provided the property owner a greater satisfaction after such a traumatic event. See more details on our Charlotte fire damage restoration services.
